1865 Charleston Newspaper article  talking about how African Americans leaving the plantations after the Civil War will destroy the economy. Talks about the work being too difficult to be done by non-slaves. Gives an example of the destruction that happened in English New Guinea because plantations have never been possible except in slave countries.

1848 Chapter 2 from book "Blacks Join The Gold Rush." In this chapter there is a newspaper story description from 1848 where Blacks are said to earn more than an East Coast governor.

1879 "Committee Investigation on Relocating Blacks" This gives us personal accounts of Blacks settling in Indiana and the benefits and struggles of shift.
